v1v10

v1v10 is a UX consultancy

I'm Kris Bell, and I created v1v10 to work on interesting things with interesting people. I've been in this UX business for well over two decades, but am now retired from big tech. These days I take on a small number of engagements, prioritizing those where folks are not sure what the right design approach is, or what the right team structure or practices should be.

I named v1v10 as a nod to the product world. Your v1 is your big, official product release. V10 is one of generations of product iterations, and is likely in parallel with your organizational evolution. I help at all points on the spectrum: new-to-world strategy, mature products and orgs, with everything inbetween. Also, the domain was available.

About me; or, why should I believe this guy?

I've spent more than two decades in tech, much of it at Amazon and Google. I was a principal IC designer at Google, and a UX Director at Amazon—both L8 positions, if that means anything. I was VP of design at Flexport for a haltingly short spell. I've been building web-based products since the late 90s.

I've lead other senior UX managers in large organizations. I've done a tons of hands-on work. I helped develop Amazon's official UX designer role guidelines with HR, built two of its biggest design systems (shopping and operations), and was the first designer promoted to Senior Principal. It feels weird writing all this, but I've been assured that one nees to "self promote."

I'm currently all booked up

I have this puppy, which is almost as much of a rate limiter as a human baby. So between her and other committed projects, my dance card is full, my plate is at capacity, my battery is drained. You can still shoot me an email, if you so desire. I promise I'll reply.
